Why Women’s? A university experience like no other.

Women’s is more than a place to live – it is a supportive, vibrant community focused on academic success, personal growth, wellbeing, and leadership development.

Students are supported through academic tutorials, mentoring, career and networking opportunities, and a rich program of cultural, sporting, community service and social activities. Being part of Women’s also means belonging to an extraordinary alumnae community that continues to support students well beyond graduation.

A community centred on equity
where women support women

Home to almost 260 residents and 50 associate members, Women’s celebrates diversity, individuality and ambition. Students are encouraged to embrace opportunities, form meaningful connections, and grow in confidence within a community that values inclusion, respect and wellbeing.

Membership opportunities to join Women’s

The Women’s College offers two ways to join our living and learning community – Residential Membership and Associate Membership – allowing students to engage with College life in a way that suits their circumstances.

Live on campus and experience everything Women’s has to offer

Resident Membership

Residential membership is ideal for students seeking on-campus accommodation and a fully immersive College experience. Residents have private bedrooms, shared communal spaces, and daily opportunities to connect with fellow students.

Living at Women’s provides access to academic tutorials, mentoring, leadership development, networking opportunities and a strong social life. While each student has their own room, the shared spaces are where lifelong friendships are formed.

New residents are allocated a room on entry, while returning residents select rooms via a lottery system. A range of bursaries and scholarships is available to support residency fees.

Be part of the Women’s community without living on campus

Associate Membership

Associate membership is designed for Brisbane-based students who live off campus but want to enjoy the benefits of College life.

Associates can participate in Women’s academic, social, leadership and development programs, join residents for weekday lunches in the Dining Hall, and live in College during O-Week in their first year.

While associates are not eligible to compete in Inter-College Competition (ICC) sport and cultural activities, they are warmly encouraged to attend events, support teams, and take part in community and volunteering activities.

Student rooms

Each student room at Women’s College is a private sanctuary – a comfortable space to study, relax and make your own. Bedrooms are fully furnished and include a bed, desk and study chair, bookshelves, ample storage, a fan and heater, and natural light through opening windows.

Students are encouraged to personalise their room with their own linen, cushions, artwork and other decorative or functional items, creating a space that feels like home while supporting academic focus.

Rooms are cleaned weekly and are located within five residential wings. Each wing is arranged in corridor groups that share bathrooms, generous common lounge areas, and kitchen and laundry facilities. A limited number of rooms feature shared ensuite bathrooms between adjoining rooms.

New students are allocated a room upon entry to the College, while returning students are invited to select their room through a lottery system. Corridor groups include students from all year levels, fostering a strong sense of connection, peer support and community across the College.

Meal times

Meal times are when you will come together to eat and socialise. The Harriet Marks Dining Hall is one of the most recognisable spaces at Women’s. All meals are served here, including Formal Dinners and some key social events. The Women’s College is very well known for its excellent food.

Meals can be provided outside of the set times for when you are unable to attend due to study/work commitments.

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals are available by arrangement, and food and beverage staff will also try to assist students with other special dietary requirements.

From Monday to Saturday, you can make-your-own ‘cut lunches’ with ingredients provided in the kitchen at breakfast time, while tea, coffee and whole fresh fruit are available throughout the day.

Accompanied guests are welcome to eat at Women’s, with the exception of special occasion meals. Guest meals are charged to a resident’s account.

During the official study and exam weeks, afternoon tea is provided every day.

Housekeeping

Rooms are cleaned weekly by professional College housekeeping staff. In between these times, it is each resident’s responsibility to keep their room clean and tidy. Fresh bed sheets are issued weekly, and vacuum cleaners and other housekeeping items are available for students to use.

Women’s has cashless laundry facilities (registration is through an app), and indoor and outdoor clothes lines.

Security

At Women’s, we view safety and security as a shared responsibility. Residents must act responsibly and respectfully towards their fellow community members, while the College commits a range of resources to ensure safety and security are top priorities.

Women’s has an advanced security system operating at all points of entry, with external doors locked, alarmed and monitored from 10:00pm. Residents may gain access to the front door until 11:00pm and external doors at any time with their fob key.

During office hours, there are professional staff at the front entrance, with Residential Services Officers (RSOs) on duty from 5:00pm to 11:00pm each evening and security patrol from 11:00pm to 6:00am.

Women’s is also serviced by the university security bus so that residents can enjoy safe and easy access to UQ libraries and lecture theatres until 11:00pm during the working week.

Wellbeing support

Resident Assistants (RAs) are appointed by the College to provide guidance for the residents within their wing. By providing support, acting as a resource, coordinating wing events, and working together to ensure College policies and expectations are met, RAs are the first level of wellbeing support at Women’s.

Additionally, Women’s professional staff are on hand to support students in a variety of ways when extra care or encouragement is required. The Deputy Head of College and Dean of Students provide both one-to-one and group support to assist with any personal issues. Working in a collaborative, sensitive and confidential environment with you, they can find the best way to overcome any challenges and move forward.

In-house counselling appointments are also available for all students.

Our Wellness Centre provides a dedicated space for students to focus on their physical and mental health, offering equipment to support your overall wellbeing. In addition to the Wellness Centre, students have access to a full-sized tennis and basketball court, as well as attractive garden spaces that are perfect for relaxing, yoga or Pilates. Music practice spaces are available for relaxation, meditation and study. If you enjoy cycling, a secure storage facility is available for bikes.

Students are encouraged to participate in the UQ Inter-College Council (ICC) sporting competition, with sporting fields conveniently situated within walking distance. A UQ Sport membership is included with your College fees, ensuring you have access to a wide range of fitness and recreational facilities.

Facilities

Common Rooms and Meeting Rooms

Two common rooms in each wing provide a place to meet up, make a coffee or watch TV. In addition to each wing’s common room, we also have the Freda Bage Room where you can study together or play the piano. Additionally, a range of meeting rooms are available to students to use for group work and quiet study. In the lead-up to exams, all meeting rooms are provided exclusively for students to use for study and assessments.

The Study Hub includes three purpose-built tutorial rooms, a meeting room, common room and kitchenette. The space is air-conditioned and is well-appointed for quiet study as well as tutorials for student use.
