Self-care while studying is a top priority at Women’s, and student wellbeing sits at the heart of College life. Women’s provides a holistic, layered approach to wellbeing that supports students academically, socially, physically, and emotionally throughout their time at College.

Resident Assistants (RAs) are appointed by the College to provide guidance, care, and support for residents within their wing. As peer leaders with a strong pastoral focus, RAs are often the first point of contact for students seeking support. They play a key role in fostering connection, inclusion, and a sense of belonging, while offering a listening ear, practical guidance, and encouragement when challenges arise. Through regular check-ins, coordination of wing activities, and their day-to-day presence, RAs help create a supportive environment and ensure College policies and expectations are met in a compassionate and respectful way.

In addition to peer-led support, Women’s professional staff are available to assist students when additional care or guidance is required. The Deputy Head of College, Dean of Students and Dean of Student Life provide both individual and group support to help students navigate personal, academic, or wellbeing concerns. Working in a collaborative, sensitive, and confidential environment, they partner with students to identify challenges, access appropriate support, and move forward with confidence.

In-house counselling appointments are available to all students, providing accessible, professional support within the College environment.

Women’s also offers a range of facilities designed to support physical and mental wellbeing. The Wellness Centre provides a dedicated space for students to focus on their health, with equipment to support fitness, stress management, and overall wellbeing. Students also have access to a full-sized tennis court and basketball court, as well as beautiful garden spaces ideal for relaxation, reflection, yoga, or Pilates. Music practice rooms are available for creative expression, relaxation, meditation, and study. Secure bicycle storage is provided for students who enjoy cycling as part of their daily exercise routine.

Students are encouraged to stay active and engaged through sport and recreation. Participation in the UQ Inter-College Council (ICC) sporting competition is strongly supported, with sporting fields conveniently located within walking distance of the College. A UQ Sport membership is included with College fees, giving students access to a wide range of fitness, sporting, and recreational facilities across the University.

At Women’s we know if you feel well, you function well in all aspects of your life. So together, the College’s professional staff, Resident Assistants, and Student Club leaders work collaboratively to create a caring, connected, and empowering environment – one where students are supported to thrive, both at College and beyond.

Women’s – more than just a place to stay

Centred on equity, Women’s is a place where women support women. The diversity, talents and personalities of almost 260 residents and 50 non-resident associates who call the College ‘home’ are celebrated and appreciated.
